Rio Ferdinand sends Paul Pogba warning amid Manchester United to Man City transfer links

Rio Ferdinand says Paul Pogba “wouldn’t be able to go out in Manchester” he made a cross city switch from Old Trafford to the Etihad.

The Frenchman is poised to leave Manchester United at the end of the season when his contract expires. Fans were sent into a frenzy last week when reports claimed Manchester City had made an offer to Pogba.

It was the first time a Premier League club had been touted for the 29-year-old's services, with the main interest coming from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. United hero Ferdinand has rubbished the idea of Pogba crossing the divide, though, despite reports that the midfielder was seriously considering a transfer.

Speaking on YouTube show FIVE, he said: “I just don't think Pep takes Paul Pogba. If he makes that move and takes Paul Pogba, I’ll be very surprised, because of the circus surrounding leaving Man United and going to City, I don't think he wants or needs that.

“Even with the way the team is playing, he’s going to have to play in front of Bernardo Silva, who’s probably been one of their best two players this season, or Kevin De Bruyne. I don’t see where he’s going to play when the two best players in the team this season are playing in his position. So just from a tactical perspective I don’t see it.”

Ferdinand added: “I don’t think it’s a fit at all, for many different reasons. He’d have to live in London and travel up, he wouldn’t be able to go out in Manchester!”

Reports have since claimed that Pogba has turned down the opportunity to join City and is looking to move abroad, although no final decision has yet been made.
