Rio Ferdinand compares Tyrell Malacia to Manchester United great after Liverpool FC victory

Rio Ferdinand has compared Tyrell Malacia to a Manchester United great following his brilliant performance against Liverpool on Monday night.

United secured their first victory of the season against their old rival this week in what will have been Erik ten Hag's most pleasing performance so far at the Reds. Jadon Sancho gave his side the lead before Marcus Rashford made it two after the break.

Mohamed Salah would take a little gloss off the scoreline with ten minutes to go but the Reds held on for a vital win. Instrumental to that was Malacia who performed superbly in place of Luke Shaw at left-back.

The 23-year-old became United's first signing of the summer when he joined from Feyenoord to add some much needed strength to the full-back position. Speaking after the match, a jubilant Ferdinand was pleased with Malacia's efforts.

He told his Vibe with Five YouTube channel: "Malacia was tremendous, outstanding. He reminds me of Patrice Evra in many ways.

"He’s athletic, he looks like a pound-for-pound strong kid. There aren’t many left-backs in European or world football in the last four or five years who have gone out of a game and kept Mohamed Salah quiet.

"Luke Shaw’s going to have to do something to get back in this team now." United return to Shaw's old club on Saturday afternoon when they face Southampton in the early kick off in the Premier League.
