Rio Ferdinand and Virgil van Dijk make honest claim about Chelsea legend John Terry

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and former England star Rio Ferdinand both believe John Terry is among the best defenders to have ever played in not just the Premier League but world football.

The ex-Chelsea captain led the Blues to five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history and the UEFA Europa League. His near two decade career at Stamford Bridge saw him become one of the greatest defenders of all time.

Speaking ahead of the Champions League final on Saturday between Liverpool and Real Madrid, Van Dijk and Ferdinand discussed their top five defenders and both named Terry on their list. The two centre-backs highlighted his 'longevity' and trophies as part of the reason for just how good he is.

"For number five, I’m going for John Terry, in terms of his longevity at that club, what they won, body on the line, much better footballer than people give credit for, the team he played for suited him," Ferdinand said on his Between The Lines show.

Van Dijk agreed and even had him higher up, adding his career achievements and admitted that he looked up to him when he was younger.

"JT [John Terry fourth] he’s got the most clean sheets, least goals conceded in the Premier League, also one of the centre-backs that you look at where you want to be when you’re younger together with yourself [Ferdinand] when you look at centre-backs," the Liverpool star said.
