Rickie Fowler's Masters return proves LIV Golf snub was right

Rickie Fowler will play at the revered Masters tournament for the first time in three years - and it's claimed his recent resurgence proves he was right to snub LIV.

After experiencing a career dip, sinking to number 160 on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) list in 2022, the American has battled his way back. From being top five in the world in 2016, his decline meant he missed out on three trips to Augusta National. The new season of 2023 saw Fowler reclaim his championship form and secure his first PGA Tour title for over four years at last July's Rocket Mortgage Classic. This win seemingly spurred him on, resulting in an ascension in the rankings and earning him coveted placement at the upcoming Masters.

Commenting on missing previous Augusta tournaments, Fowler confessed: "I mean, honestly, it sucked. But knowing kind of what I had been doing and kind of moving back up the world ranking, that at least gave me something to look forward to knowing that I would be in Majors moving forward and hopefully be back at Augusta next year."

He added: "But yeah, it was a bummer. I ended up watching a decent amount as I think everyone does. I was out playing golf and I watched some of the live streaming stuff on my phone, but that was some motivation to be back.

This time, he won't have to make do with watching a stream on his phone because he's worked his way back in. Missing the majors was a hard hit for the American, which clearly influenced his decision not to join LIV Golf.

This golfer from the PGA Tour was widely expected to follow players like Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm. For all the latest US news, in areas like politics, sports and celebrity gossip, check out The Mirror US.
