Richard Madeley mortified after Judy Finnigan's bra blunder in front of thousands

Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, once hailed as daytime TV royalty after launching ITV's flagship show This Morning, experienced an unforgettable moment at the National Television Awards in 2000. The beloved pair were on stage, basking in the success of winning an award for their work on This Morning, when an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction occurred: Judy's dress came undone, revealing her bra to the audience.

Unaware of the mishap, Richard mistook the audience's laughter as a cue to perform his Ali G impression, which he had previously done on This Morning. It was only when John Leslie sprang into action, rushing onto the stage to help Judy cover up, that the couple realised what had happened.

Reflecting on the incident during their new Channel 5 documentary, Our Best Bits In Our Own Words, aired on Sunday (September 22), they shared their initial bewilderment.

Richard, 68, recounted to the camera: "We were blissfully unaware, until John Leslie stood up, and we thought, 'What is he doing'. He raced up the steps, I thought 'What is he playing at', he reached out for Judy and hoisted her dress up."

"As we had come up [on stage] quite a few people had shouted at me, 'Do your Ali G', I thought that's what they were saying, and I was like 'No, I'm not doing it'. It was nothing to do with that, it was all about your dress, but we didn't know."

Judy, aged 76, confessed she "didn't notice" her halter neck dress had slipped because she was wearing a coat over it. The couple's children, Jack, aged 38, and Chloe, aged 37, also featured in the documentary, reports the Mirror.

Reacting to the unforgettable scene, Jack remarked: "I just remember turning around in slow motion towards the telly, and there is mum with her bra out",
