Ricardo Santos gives fresh update on Bolton Wanderers contract talks & bold next season prediction

Bolton skipper Ricardo Santos is hoping to extend his stay at Wanderers as he described talks over a fresh deal at the club as 'positive'.

The 26-year-old has one year left on his current Wanderers deal but talks opened before the campaign concluded over fresh terms for the central defender.

The defender has turned out 91 times for Ian Evatt's side since joining in 2020 and become a vital part of the Wanderers set-up, being installed as the club's captain last season following the departure of Antoni Sarcevic.

Santos' impressive performances on the pitch has seen Wanderers keen to extend his time at the club, with his contract currently running until mid-2023 and caught the attentions of Championship clubs.

The defender had previously said he wished to focus on the rest of the season and that he does not want to rush into any decisions, though he stressed that he is happy at Wanderers and does not want that to be misinterpreted that he is stalling on making a choice.

Now that the campaign has concluded, Wanderers boss Evatt intends to speak with Santos and his representative over a new deal for the defender.

And now that the season is over, Santos is hopeful that he can commit his future to the club as he says talks 'look positive' between him, Evatt and his agent.

Santos said: "I said I will wait until the end of the season. It is the end of the season now, so hopefully I can stay here. Me and the gaffer and my agent have been speaking so yeah, talks look positive.

"It is becoming a real family-based club. Just the backing they give us every week, they are amazing and the boys all really appreciate it."
