Manchester United transfer news LIVE Lingard and Cristiano Ronaldo latest plus Erik ten Hag updates

Manchester United will step up preparations for their penultimate match of the season today.

After managing to give their home supporters a happy note to end on in their final match at Old Trafford with a 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday, United now have two away games remaining to see out the campaign with a trip to Brighton first up this weekend.

Ralf Rangnick hopes that he may have captain Harry Maguire back after the centre-back missed the last two matches with a knee injury but Jadon Sancho is out. The winger is unlikely to play again this season after coming down with a nasty bout of tonsillitis.

Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba are also out for the remainder of the season, though Edinson Cavani and Fred did return from their injuries off the bench on Monday.

Stay tuned for the latest United news throughout the day.

Raphael Varane has backed Erik ten Hag as the right manager for Manchester United, having had first-hand experience of the Dutchman's thrilling Ajax teams.

Ten Hag will take over at United next month having recently been confirmed as the club's next permanent manager, but he is looking to finish his time in Holland with a third league title with Ajax.

The 52-year-old has built a reputation for creating two stylish Ajax teams and his desire to play an entertaining and progressive style has made him the choice of supporters to take over at Old Trafford.

Here's what he said.

Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard is 'upset' with interim manager Ralf Rangnick at being denied an Old Trafford farewell appearance against Brentford.

Sources close to Lingard, who is out of contract in June, say the 29-year-old was dismayed by Rangnick's decision to send on Edinson Cavani ahead of the academy graduate in the 3-0 win.
