Rhys Bennett agrees Manchester United loan exit

Manchester United have agreed to send Rhys Bennett on loan to League Two leaders Stockport County for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old has been open to leaving the club on loan this month as he goes in search of his first taste of senior football.

The Manchester Evening News understands Bennett has now agreed to a move to Stockport and an announcement is set to be made today ahead of their clash with Notts County this weekend.

Bennett has been named on the bench four times by Erik ten Hag at senior level, including twice this season, but has yet to make his senior debut for the club.

The academy graduate has made 67 appearances for the club across youth levels and led United to a famous FA Youth Cup victory in 2022.

Bennett signed a new contract with the club last summer and featured for the club in their pre-season opener against Leeds United in Oslo.

If not for injury, Bennett could well have been handed a senior debut when United faced Liverpool at Anfield last month, but his recent fitness issues have seen Willy Kambwala given the chance instead.

Kambwala is another youngster currently attracting loan interest but he is not expected to leave the club this month after overtaking Bennett in the pecking order.

Bennett will become the seventh player to leave United on loan this month, following in the footsteps of Alvaro Fernandez (Benfica), Hannibal Mejbri (Sevilla), Joe Hugill (Burton Albion), Maxi Oyedele (Forest Green Rovers), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) and Donny van de Beek (Eintracht Frankfurt).
