Review of the season: 9/10 for Celtic ace who gave fans a reason to believe

Kyogo’s signing was a bit of a gamble when he joined Celtic in the summer from Vissel Kobe, but the fact that he was very familiar to Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou was a positive sign. However, few would have expected him to hit the ground running at Celtic Park, and go on to have a superb first season in Glasgow.

Following the disappointment of season 2020/21, when the club didn’t even challenge for the title when going for 10 in a row, Celtic fans needed a reason to believe in the club, and Kyogo provided.

His hat-trick against Dundee at the start of the season was the start of a great season personally for the striker, but it also indicated that Celtic were going to be a completely different team from season 2020/21.

Kyogo’s performances gave the Hoops fans a reason to believe that the team would come good again, and that is certainly what happened in season 2021/22.

The player and Celtic went from strength to strength in the first-half of the season, and Kyogo’s two goals in the Premier Sports Cup Final against Hibernian were reminiscent of Henrik Larsson at his best.

Shortly after that cup final win, the striker suffered a real setback as he picked up a hamstring injury against St Johnstone in December 2021.

That injury kept him out of action for around four months, and it is testament to the quality of the current Celtic side that by the time the forward returned to the Hoops squad, the Bhoys were well-placed to win the title.

The good news for Celtic though is that when here returned to action for the Bhoys, Kyogo was almost back to his best. He weighed in with some big goals, such as a great header against Ross County, and a double against Motherwell in the last game of the season.
