Report: Angels sign P/OF Ohtani to one-year, $30 million extension
The Los Angeles Angels and Shohei Ohtani have agreed on a one-year, $30 million extension, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan
Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels are in agreement on a one-year, $30 million contract to avoid arbitration. It’s the largest salary ever for an arbitration-eligible player and will be his final number before he hits the free agent jackpot following the 2023 season.
The deal will help the two sides avoid arbitration this offseason and lead Ohtani to unrestricted free agency at the end of 2023.
Ohtani, 27, is batting .276 with 34 home runs and 94 RBIs and also has a 15-8 pitching record with a 2.35 earned-run average.
The native of Oshu, Japan won the American League MVP last season after hitting .257 with 46 home runs and 100 RBIs. As a pitcher, he had a 9-2 record with a 3.18 ERA.
Ohtani also won the American League Rookie of the Year in 2018.
