Repairs have begun on Blackpool Central Pier today after a woman plunged through the boards and onto the beach below.

Emergency services were scrambled to the famous attraction at the seaside town at around 4.30pm on Tuesday (August 6) after a woman fell through a section of the pier. Horrified onlookers watched on as police and paramedics, including a critical care team, responded.

The pier was evacuated and the woman was rushed to hospital. Police confirmed she remains there for treatment.
