Manchester stabbing: Everything we know after woman killed and two fighting for life

A murder investigation is underway in Manchester today after a woman was killed in a horrific triple stabbing.

A 22-year-old man has been taken into custody for questioning after the incident unfolded on Barnard Road late on Sunday evening (August 18). A 43-year-old woman died on the scene and two others are in hospital fighting for their lives.

Investigations are being carried out on the street with a huge cordon in place. Forensic officers are on the scene scouring the area for evidence, with three forensic tents in place.

Here we take a look at everything we know so far about the incident.

Greater Manchester Police said officers received 'numerous calls' from concerned members of the public about the incident at around 11.20pm on Sunday evening. Barnard Road is in Gorton, close to the border with Longsight.

Police dispatched specialist firearms units to the scene. Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service also raced to the street.

The Manchester Evening News understands the incident began inside a property. According to neighbours, more emergency crews arrived into the early hours of this morning.

Three victims were found to have suffered 'serious stab wounds' - a 43-year-old woman, a 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man. Tragically, the woman died on the scene as a result of her injuries.

The teenage girl and man were rushed to hospital. Both remain there having suffered 'life-threatening injuries'.

From initial enquiries, detectives believe the victims were 'known to the suspect'. The incident is believed to have been 'isolated'.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He was swiftly arrested 'within minutes' of officers arriving the scene, GMP said.
