Remembrance Sunday 2024: Live updates as Greater Manchester pays its respects to the fallen

Greater Manchester will fall silent today to pay its respects to the servicemen and women who have fallen in the line of duty since the First World War.

To mark the occasion, Remembrance Sunday services will be taking place in cities, towns and villages across Greater Manchester. In Manchester city centre, there will be a procession through the streets before a ceremony is held at the Cenotaph on St Peter's Square.

It will feature a gathering of civic dignitaries, servicemen and women, service and ex-service organisations, faith leaders, emergency services and other uniformed organisations paying their respects and honouring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The event begins at John Dalton Street to the Cenotaph in St Peter’s Square at 10.25am, led by the Lancashire Artillery Volunteers Band and the Greater Manchester Police Band. The Civic procession will depart from Mount Street at 10.40am for the Cenotaph, led by the Scots Guards Association Pipe Band.
