Reims president has already confirmed Hugo Ekitike could leave amid Manchester United links

Comments made by Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot about his side's promising forward Hugo Ekitike suggest the youngster could be on the move this summer, amid Manchester United's reported interest.

The 19-year-old was seemingly on the verge of signing for Newcastle during the mid-season transfer window. However, his £20m move to the Premier League eventually broke down.

This week, United have reportedly registered their interest in the forward, as per ESPN. And the comments made by Caillot back in January suggest he could well be available this summer.

“It is true that we received very good offers for Hugo during this transfer window," he said (via The Athletic). "Our desire has always been to keep him at least one full season.

"He too was keen not to skip the stages, wanting to be a little more lasting in the club project, that of his training club which he joined at the age of 11. We share the feeling that there is still a piece of history to write together.

"We are happy to be able to count on him from Sunday against Bordeaux," he added. So far this term, Ekitike has 10 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions and with a full season almost completed, it could open the door to a departure.
