Red Bull boss Horner praises team for producing an F1 'super car' in 2022

Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes the RB18 car could be the most successful car ever produced by the team despite a very late start with its development.

In the 2021 Formula 1 Championship, the title was decided in the last race of the season at Abu Dhabi, which saw Red Bull driver Max Verstappen win the title by overtaking the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton on the final lap to claim a controversial victory. It's been an intense battle between the two teams throughout the campaign.

Due to the 2021 season going down to the wire, Red Bull was forced to keep developing the RB16B car and could only fully focus on developing this year's RB18 much later.

'A super car'

Despite their late start, Red Bull has dominated the 2022 F1 campaign, winning 12 of the 16 races, including 16 podiums, with six races remaining.

In a chat with F1's Beyond the Grid podcast, Horner was asked how he rated his team's 2022 performance, and if he thought it was their best ever, he replied: "I would say so.

"In 2021, we were operating at an incredible level, and we finally got a sniff of putting a challenge together for a world championship, and that was a 22-race championship bout, a heavyweight fight from race one to race 22."

"What has been particularly pleasing about this year is despite colossal regulation changes we had to undergo coming into this year - and we honestly thought we had compromised this year by putting everything we had into last year - the team came up with an amazing car, a super car.
