Record set as Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney’s MLS All-Stars well beaten by Arsenal

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney took charge of the MLS All-Stars as they took on Premier League side Arsenal.

United all-time top scorer Rooney is the coach of DC United and was also in the dugout for the annual encounter. The showcase clash sees the best players from the MLS take on another team from another country.

United have twice been involved in the clash, with back-to-back encounters in 2010 and 2011. United won on both occasions, with 4-0 and 5-2 scorelines in each respective year.

The Gunners were the side which took on the MLS All-Stars this summer. Mikel Arteta's side came out on top with a 5-0 scoreline.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring early for Arsenal at Audi Field in Washington DC. Leandro Trossard doubled the Gunners' advantage midway through the first half.

Jorginho added a third from the penalty spot at the start of the second half, before Gabriel Martinelli scored Arsenal's fourth towards full-time. New signing Kai Havertz scored the fifth and final goal before the final whistle.

It meant the game ended 5-0 and with that set a new record. It is now the greatest winning margin by a side in an MLS All-Stars game, eclipsing the record that United had held with their victory in the 2010 edition.
