"Really get you off your seats" - Transfer insider drops "statement" verdict on £50m NUFC target

Newcastle United target Moussa Diaby is ‘the sort of signing’ that would really excite supporters, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old in recent weeks as they step up their preparations ahead of the transfer window reopening in just over a weeks’ time.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle want to add Diaby to their attacking options next term and have already ‘made enquiries’ over a deal for the Bayer Leverkusen winger.

It’s claimed that the France international is ‘high on the list of transfer targets’ for manager Eddie Howe this summer after enjoying a successful three-year stint at the BayArena.

Diaby’s current contract doesn’t expire until June 2025, though, leaving Leverkusen in a strong position around the negotiating table.

A previous report by the Daily Mail stated that Newcastle were set to try their luck with a £50 million offer for the creative talent, although his price tag is believed to be closer to the £75m mark.

Howe has been prioritising a wide forward ahead of next term as he looks to build on the solid foundations he put down at St. James’ Park in the second half of 2021/22, with the future of Allan Saint-Maximin still up in the air.

Jones believes that Diaby’s arrival in the North East of England would get the Newcastle supporters off their seats with excitement.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think for Newcastle fans, this is the sort of signing that would really get you off your seats from the first game of next season.

“So, this is the kind of statement I think Newcastle fans would like to see them make.”
