'Real possibility' - Transfer insider now hints at big surprise at Newcastle

Newcastle United could see one of their star men in Allan Saint-Maximin leave this summer, amid reports of a potential departure.

That is what transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport as he provided his insight on the business Eddie Howe’s side could do this summer.

It has been suggested the Frenchman could depart St James’ Park, with some reports suggesting Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest in possibly making a move.

Saint-Maximin provided five goals and five assists this season for the Toon, but his last goal came back in the first game of 2022 away to Watford.

Only a few weeks ago, the 25-year-old made some bold comments about his spot at St James’ Park, claiming that with better players, his output would improve.

And it seems Jones would not be surprised to see the winger move on this summer, with a new deal – which he wants – not expected to be handed to him.

He said: “Don’t rule out some surprises, with Allan Saint-Maximin a real possibility to go. He is looking for a new deal, which is not forthcoming. Is he a long-term player for Eddie Howe? Maybe not.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We do not think losing Saint-Maximin would be a disaster for Newcastle this summer by any stretch. The Frenchman only provided two goal involvements in his last 15 Premier League games (via Transfermarkt).

Before the takeover late last year, we think Newcastle were potentially punching above their weight, with Saint-Maximin in their side as a luxury player battling against relegation.

However, with the spending power now behind the Tyneside club, we do not think this is the case anymore, as the club have the power to replace him should he move on this summer.
