Real Madrid want to beat Manchester United to Mauricio Pochettino this summer

The Real Madrid hierarchy was left seething with Carlo Ancelotti after defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night and they are considering ditching the Italian in the summer, wanting to replace him with PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Ancelotti adopted seriously defensive tactics in the first leg of the last 16 tie in Paris and it wasn’t exactly disastrous as his side narrowly lost 1-0 thanks to a sublime Kylian Mbappe goal.

However, Spanish publication AS report that president Florentino Perez was furious with how the team was set up and Ancelotti’s job is on the line in the second leg back in Madrid.

It is unlikely that the former Chelsea and Everton boss would be replaced before the end of the season, with Real still on course for the La Liga title, but Perez would look to replace him in the summer.

Pochettino is the number one target for the decision-makers at the Santiago Bernabeu, but they are aware of Manchester United interest in the former Tottenham boss.

They would need to make an early move for Pochettino at the end of the season to beat United to the Argentine.

AS report that Perez is also a huge fan of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and the German is high on their list of targets, but the Real chief knows it would be very difficult to get Klopp to leave Anfield before the end of his contract in 2024.
