Reading FC player set to sign for Italian club

Reading FC forward George Puscas is set to depart the club this summer.

As per The Reading Chronicle, the 26-year-old is set to join Serie B side Genoa on a loan deal with a view to making the move a permanent one.

Puscas is familiar with life in Serie B after spending the second half of last season on loan in the division with Pisa.

During that loan spell, the 26-year-old scored eight goals and registered two assists in 22 league appearances, helping the club to reach the promotion play-off final, only to be beaten.

It is said that the player is now awaiting his medical with the Italian side.

Puscas joined Reading with much excitement back in 2019, signing from Inter Milan for what is a significant fee for a Championship side.

A club record fee in the region of £7.5 million was what it cost the club to secure the then 23-year-old from the Italian giants.

In his first season at the club, in 42 appearances in all competitions, Puscas netted 14 times, laying on three assists for his teammates in those games, too.

An injury in his second season halted his progress, though, and following his return, he went on to score just three more league goals before departing the club on loan in January.

The Romanian international has two years left on his Reading contract.

His exit is set to facilitate the signing of former Huddersfield Town defender Naby Sarr.

After rumours all summer, this does not come as a great surprise.

It’s unclear on the financials of the deal, but the fact his exit is set to facilitate the signing of Naby Sarr suggests this is a positive sale for Reading to make.

The move will likely be a good one for Puscas, too.
