Reading FC issue update on AFC Wimbledon fixture amid fears game could be called off

Reading have given advice to fans as they prepare for Tuesday's pre-season friendly against AFC Wimbledon.

With temperatures in the UK being extremely high over the next few days and a first ever red warning in place with the hottest record in the country's history expected, people have been warned to stay indoors where possible and keep well hydrated to avoid any health issues such as heatstroke and heat exhaustion.

Royals are scheduled to play the League One club at their Plough Lane Stadium but there has been speculation over whether the game may be called off due to the heatwave.

Should it be played, Reading have given fans some advice on the club's official website on how to avoid falling ill in the extremely hot weather, with tips such as drink plenty of water, avoid the sun where possible and wear suitable clothing when leaving the house.

The website reads: " – take plenty of water with you to drink regularly; tea and coffee are also good alternatives to avoid dehydration; avoid excess alcohol.

" – keep out of direct sunlight by staying indoors or in shaded areas; make sure you have a hat and apply sunscreen when outdoors.

– be alert to the needs of your friends and family and help them if they are showing signs of being unwell.

– expect disruption to journeys and make sure you have everything you need with you, including water, sunscreen, appropriate clothing and any medication you may require."
