Reading FC academy graduate opens up on two year spell in Spanish football after Celta Vigo exit

Reading FC academy graduate Jordan Holsgrove has admitted he fulfilled a dream of playing in La Liga as his two-year spell in Spain has come to an end.

The former Scotland youth international joined Celta Vigo in the summer of 2020 despite never making a senior appearance for Royals.

The 22-year-old, who came through Reading 's youth system, joined Celta's B team set-up, making 52 appearances overall. He also played for the senior side, too, playing six matches and scoring one goal.

Now, he is on the look-out for a new club as his two-year deal in Spain runs out at the end of the month.

The midfielder took to Instagram to announce hs departure, saying: "My time is up after 2 years at @rccelta and I’m very grateful for the opportunity they have given me and allowing me to achieve one of my dreams of playing in LaLiga.

"I have met some amazing staff and players that I will be friends with for life. And finally, I would like to thank the fans for their incredible support - you guys have been amazing."

Holsgrove, whose dad Paul played for Reading in the mid 1990s, made more than 50 appearances combined for the U18s and U23s sides.

He was on the fringes of Royals' first team after being sent out to Atletico Baleares for a year-long loan spell in 2019/20 but failed to convince then-boss Mark Bowen and instead moved to Celta in search of regular first-team football.
