Read the letter from Manchester Airports Group CEO Charlie Cornish in full following weeks of travel chaos

Passengers at Manchester Airport have faced a turbulent month, with staff shortages leading to huge security queues, baggage delays and missed flights for passengers. In recent days, arrivals have even abandoned their luggage due to the wait.

People hoping to make the most of relaxed Covid travel rules have seen their trips affected, as the airline industry suffers a surge of coronavirus-related sickness and a shortage of workers after job cuts during the pandemic. As part of the plans, it was announced police and transport staff are to be parachuted in to help, with passengers also set to be given real time online queuing information and the option to check-in bags the night before their flight.
