Rashford, Sancho get ominous warning from England boss Gareth Southgate

Gareth Southgate has sounded an ominous warning to Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw over their chances of getting back into the England squad.

United’s poor Premier League showing has not helped the trio in their mission to get into Southgate’s World Cup squad. All three have been omitted from Southgate’s plans in the last 12 months.

The trio were all included in Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad with Shaw, 26, starting six of England’s seven games, including the final in which he scored.

The defender is currently missing due to injury. And he seems the most likely Manchester United man to join Harry Maguire in the squad.

Kieran Trippier filled in at left-back in Saturday’s goalless draw with Italy.

Sancho though made just one start at the finals, while Rashford made a series of sub appearances.

However, they were both axed for the March get-together with Southgate far from sympathetic.

The Three Lions boss pointed out that Rashford had withdrawn from six of the previous eight squads. And he labelled the decision to exclude him and Sancho as “fairly straightforward”.

And when asked, ahead of England’s final game of the international break against Hungary, if United’s players would be fresher for November’s World Cup due to a lack of Champions League, Southgate said. “We’ve only got one [United player] with us.

“They’ve got a lot to do to get back in the squad.

“Well, look, I think the lower the load then of course the less likely for injuries and the hope that players can be that little bit sharper but there’s no way of knowing.

“Some players are at their best when they’re in a rhythm of playing and you talk to some of our lads now and they want to play every game because that’s how they feel
