Aymeric Laporte delivers verdict on Man City draw with Liverpool FC in title showdown

Aymeric Laporte has accepted that Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool was a "good result" for Manchester City - but feels his team could have come away with all three points.

After taking an early lead through Kevin De Bruyne's fourth Premier League goal in as many games, City were pegged back through Diogo Jota's close-range finish. However, the Blues restored their lead nine minutes before the break, courtesy of Gabriel Jesus' smart finish.

Liverpool, though, responded immediately after half-time to draw themselves level for a second time. Mohamed Salah produced an expertly weighted pass for Sadio Mane to connect with and he made no mistake to sweep the ball past Ederson to make it 2-2.

From that moment onwards, both sides had chances to scoop all three points. Raheem Sterling thought he had put City ahead for the third time but his effort, following a VAR check, was ruled out for offside, meaning the points were shared.

Despite being unable to open up a four-point gap at the summit, City remain in the driving seat to retain their title crown. With that said, Laporte, who started at centre-back alongside John Stones, has taken the positives from what was a thrilling contest.

On Twitter, the defender said: "Intense game today where we probably could have earned a bit more than a point, but still a good result against a top team. Let the final race begin."
