But neither Danny Rohl nor Martin O’Neill will be thinking about Hearts – who scooped up yet another Scottish Premiership win yesterday.

No, it appears already there is little love lost between the two managers as evidenced by Friday’s press conferences where Rangers head coach Rohl appeared to indulge in more than a little mind games.

To win today both bosses will need every trick and talent as the eyes of the world descend on Scotland’s biggest city.

My favourite Rangers fundamentalist, who shall remain anonymous, was on to me first thing last Sunday morning.

The bone of contention was my assertion that former sporting director Kevin Thelwell might be due an apology from Rangers fans in the case of Youssef Chermiti.

Thelwell was roundly abused for urging the club to pay as much money as they did for the striker who came to Glasgow from Everton, Kevin’s pre-Ibrox employers.

My decision to go to bat for the sporting director was prompted by
Chermiti’s three-goal
performance in the comprehensive 4-2 win over Hearts at Ibrox.

As well as Youssef
accumulating a total of seven goals for Rangers – six of them against Celtic and the Tynecastle side.
