Rangers: Van Bronckhorst 'questioned right now' over key calls at Ibrox

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is still “generally trusted” at the club, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Van Bronckhorst replaced Steven Gerrard in the Ibrox dugout in November, and has had an interesting first five months at the helm.

When van Bronckhorst took up his position on the touchline, Rangers had a four-point advantage at the top of the table.

However, the Gers have lost back-to-back Old Firm derbies under his stewardship, and they have also been held to four draws. This has allowed Celtic to overhaul them, and Ange Postecoglou’s side are now six points clear with six games remaining.

Van Bronckhorst has fared better in Europe, though, guiding Rangers to the quarter-finals of the Europa League. They are currently halfway through their last eight tie with Braga.

Jones expects Rangers to look to rebuild their squad this summer, even if they manage to pip Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.

He has claimed that some people have questioned van Bronckhorst’s decision-making when it comes to team selections, but he feels the Dutchman will be given the opportunity to reshape his team in the off-season.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “In terms of Van Bronckhorst’s future, his team selections are being questioned a bit, but he is generally trusted right now, and I see him carrying on and having a voice on how they move forward.”

Rangers looked on course to pick up back-to-back titles when van Bronckhorst arrived, but it now appears likely that they will fall short to their bitter rivals.

In fairness, though, Celtic have only dropped four points during van Bronckhorst’s time at Rangers, and have become a formidable side under Postecoglou.
