Rangers transfer bulletin as Connor Barron bargaining chip lost while Relebohile Mofokeng told to follow 3 legends

Rangers are close to securing the signing of Connor Barron - but just how much money the club will have to pay for the Aberdeen midfielder remains to be seen.

The 21-year-old is without a club after his contract at Pittodrie expired last month, and is poised to become the latest addition in Philippe Clement's summer rebuild at Ibrox after the Light Blues saw off competition from elsewhere. However, the Dons will be entitled to a fee of £525,000 in training compensation, unless Rangers gamble and take the transfer to a tribunal hearing.

The Gers may have been able to use back-up goalkeeper Robby McCrorie as a bargaining chip to help agree a deal with their Premiership rivals, who had previously been identified as a potential target between the sticks following regular stopper Kelle Roos' exit. However, as revealed by Record Sport on Tuesday, Aberdeen have now ended their interest in the former Scotland U21 international and have instead launched a bid to sign St Johnstone's Dimitar Mitov after activating the Bulgarian keeper's six figure release clause.

Barron is expected to join the Gers ahead of the new season but unless an agreement with Aberdeen can be reached then the situation may go to a tribunal, which can often take months to settle. In the summer of 2018, Aberdeen snapped up Lewis Ferguson from Hamilton on a free transfer, but ended up paying around £220,000 in compensation - far less than the New Douglas Park side had hoped for.

Another man who has been touted with a move to Govan is South African youth international Relebohile Mofokeng. The winger has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Orlando Pirates, registering 11 goal contributions for his club and making his senior debut for South Africa last week.
