The Hotline remains torn over whether Cyriel Dessers’ ripped shirt should have resulted in a Rangers penalty during Thursday night’s Europa League showdown with Athletic Club.

Stefan Lomako, Whithorn, said: “Rangers were well and truly robbed of the shirt ripping penalty which could have been a sending off and a game changer.

“Frustration due to missed chances could have had an adverse effect on Athletic and Rangers, even with backs to the wall, could have capitalised.

"That's history now but next season will be very interesting and I hope Celtic stay focused. I believe the greens and blues can still make the Champions League if rules allow.”

Billy Barrie, Dundee, added: “It would be fair to say that there was a shirt-pull on Dessers and normally VAR would have a look at it, but I think the reason the penalty wasn't given was because of the way Dessers literally throws himself to the ground.

“Had he stayed on his feet, he MIGHT have got a shot away. Dessers is an absolute disgrace the way he throws himself around looking for penalties during EVERY match I've ever seen him play in.

“Supporters of every other team in Scotland would probably say to Rangers 'now you know how we feel after playing against you' considering that pre-VAR, Rangers went more than two seasons without having one penalty awarded against them in a league match. Karma!”
