Rangers star Alex Lowry says new boss isn't his concern, he's focused on Hearts loan

Alex Lowry insists he’s not thinking about a new Rangers manager coming in – even though he could be recalled from his Hearts loan spell in January.

While the winger from Uddingston is obviously keeping tabs on the ongoing search at Ibrox to replace Michael Beale, Lowry insists he’s focused solely on impressing Hearts boss Steven Naismith, and staying in the Scotland under-21 squad.

Rangers have the option of recalling Lowry in January, and whoever takes the reins at Ibrox may choose to do so.

Lowry’s displays for the Jambos have so far got Rangers fans querying why Beale let him go in the first place, but the 20-yer-old said: “It’s not in my mind, my main aim is to perform for Hearts right now.

“Whatever happens in January happens.

“I couldn’t tell you who the next manager is going to be, so it’s nothing to do with me.

“My focus is on impressive Steven Naismith, and if he’s playing me, then I’ll hopefully keep getting picked for the 21s.

“That’s all I can control, my own form, so I just have to do my best and see what happens.”

Lowry has impressed for Hearts, scoring in the 2-2 draw against Hibs and netting a Viaplay Cup winner against Kilmarnock to seal a semi-final berth.

“It’s a big season for me,” he said. “This has been my main breakthrough season, because although I made my [Rangers] debut two seasons ago, last season I was constantly injured and a few other things happened.

“This season I’ve started afresh and hopefully I can really get going.

“Going to Hearts has given me something completely different.

“I’d been in the enclosed walls of Rangers, so I knew what pressure was like.

“But coming to Hearts, it has been a case of ‘wow’ because it’s so pressurised there, too. I have loved every minute of it so far.”
