Rangers slam 'disgusting' fan behaviour at Aberdeen as they launch inquest over vile chants and missiles

Rangers chiefs say they’ve held talks with Aberdeen counterparts and Police Scotland after Sunday’s Pittodrie clash was blighted by sick chants and an alleged missile attack on a supporters bus.

The Ibrox club claim a fan was injured in the incident which followed their 2-0 defeat in the north east. And they’ve also condemned the home support for chants that mocked victims of the Ibrox Disaster and the death of club legends. The Premiership showdown was played out to a disturbing soundtrack, with chants about the Ibrox Disaster and a song sung to the tune of ‘Super Trouper’ targeting late Gers icons Davie Cooper, Walter Smith and Jimmy Bell heard during Sky Sports' live broadcast.

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack was also taunted by fans of the club he used to skipper before moving to Glasgow during the match. There were also reports of sectarian chanting from the away support. Now Rangers have hit out, saying in a statement: “Rangers are liaising with both Police Scotland and Aberdeen FC following a number of incidents both during and after yesterday’s match at Pittodrie. The club can confirm a Rangers supporter was injured after missiles were thrown at Rangers supporters’ buses as they departed in convoy from the stadium last night.

“The club is also disgusted by chanting from the Aberdeen sections of the stadium which mocked the Ibrox Disaster. The deaths of club legends, and the desire for a member of the current first-team squad to die.”

Meanwhile, Police Scotland have confirmed a teenager has been charged after a Gers supporters bus appeared to have its windows smashed in after Sunday's match with Aberdeen. Four other males were arrested in connection with a number of offences around Pittodrie Stadium.
