Michael Stewart declares Rangers should have NO player of the year candidates but names 2 signs of 'positivity'

Confident Michael Stewart reckons NO Rangers player is in with a chance of being named player of the year in Scotland.

It has been a disappointing season at Ibrox as Michael Beale failed to bring a trophy to the club this term with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic claiming the title with four games to spare, and Ange Postecoglou now having his sights set on a Treble ahead of the Scottish Cup Final showdown with Inverness Caley Thistle next month. However, the likes of captain James Tavernier have still returned impressive figures netting 17 goals in all competitions.

The likes of Malik Tillman have also caught the eye, with the Bayern Munich loanee landing a spot in the PFA Team of the Year this week. However, when speaking to BBC Scotland Stewart struggled to give a single Rangers player a chance of making the list as he discussed his longlist of candidates for the top award this season.

Celtic trio Callum McGregor, Kyogo and Reo Hatate made the cut, while there was mentions for goal machines Hearts' star Lawrence Shankland and Motherwell's Kevin van Veen. Duk at Aberdeen and St Mirren skipper Mark O'Hara also made Stewart's picks.

And while the former Hearts and Hibs midfielder can see signs of life in Govan, he doesn't reckons there is enough positives to get the nod. Stewart: "I don't really see anyone in the Rangers side individually that you think has excelled enough to be in the running for player of the season. However, there's some who have shown signs of positivity for the future.

"Todd Cantwell has caught the eye, but for me, Nicolas Raskin has really stood out. He's not been there for that long, but the little bits I've seen of him I can see why they've brought him in. Ryan Jack is over 30, Glen Kamara
