Rangers should step off that team bus and ruin every one of the baying Celtic mobs’ weekend – Barry Ferguson

There are certain rules which should be non-negotiable for every Rangers player. For example, when someone of the stature of Richard Gough speaks, you had better be paying attention.

Very few people in the game know better than the former nine-in-a-row skipper what it takes to wear that shirt properly. The man commands respect because of the historic scale of his achievements at Ibrox. Put it this way, when I saw he had given an exclusive interview with the Record the other day, I made sure I lapped up every word of it. And I hope the guys inside that dressing room did the same thing.

Because, as much as it was a difficult read for anyone who cares about the football club, it was also very hard to disagree with. Goughie was right. Celtic are the top team in the country right now. The league table doesn’t lie. And, yes, there is a danger that our old club is suffering from the same kind of inferiority complex which was once Celtic’s problem to deal with.

But, while I grudgingly accept all of the above, I know how I’d be feeling if I was in Michael Beale’s squad ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Parkhead. Legend or not, I’d be absolutely bursting to get out there and prove the big man wrong. I’d want to show the world Celtic are not the unbeatable, super-power so many people make them out to be.
