Rangers remember Jimmy Bell: Players and staff lay wreaths at Ibrox ahead of Europa League semi-final

Rangers manager Gio van Bronckhorst and his squad have laid a wreath at Ibrox in tribute to beloved kitman Jimmy Bell.

The club is preparing for a massive Europa League semi-final second leg clash against RB Leipzig tonight, but the players took time out from the build-up to pay their respects to the legendary figure who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 69.

Wishaw man Bell, who originally worked as a bus driver for Parks of Hamilton before taking over as kitman just before Graeme Souness took the manager’s job in 1986, worked under 11 different Rangers managers.

His absence will be felt all around Ibrox and the club are hoping they can 'do it for Jimmy' when they look to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit under the lights in Govan.

Boss van Bronckhorst and club captain James Tavernier were pictured laying wreaths at the statue of John Greig which stands above the Ibrox Disaster memorial.

The players and staff's mark of respect comes ahead of a planned minute's silence at Ibrox tonight before kick-off.

A special fan tribute is also being planned for Sunday's Scottish Premiership clash with Dundee United, with fans encouraged to wear retro kits in his honour.
