Rangers punters get it tight over Jota digs as Celtic fans predict Henrik Larsson trajectory – Hotline

Jota lifted the roof off Celtic Park with his sensational goal as Celtic started their title defence with a win.

As Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin suggested, the Portuguese’s brilliant effort showed what £6million can get you in the transfer market. Nonetheless, Stephen Mulhearn, Dumbarton, still reckons the champions got a great deal out of Benfica having watched his opening-day cracker. He said: “After witnessing Jota’s Ronaldo-type strike, I’m still amazed Celtic signed him for such a modest fee in the current transfer market. It’s showing similarities to when Henrik Larsson was stolen from Feyenoord for a modest fee.”

William Hutchison, Aberdeen , added: “To the Hotline caller who said Jota couldn’t get into an average Benfica team? After Jota's sensational strike at the weekend, if we can get players who cannot get into average teams and score goals like that, I will take them anytime.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, made a similar point when he continued: “Just a wee reminder to the gent that Jota has just scored his first goal of the season and it might be one of the best. Also because Celtic are champions, they get Tuesday off while their rivals will have tricky games coming up to get to where the greatest team in the history of Scottish football are.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, took an overall view of the display of Ange Postecoglou ’s side and said: “It wasn’t a blistering performance from Celtic, but it was a very professional and comfortable one against an Aberdeen team who look a bit more resilient this season. The game was lit up by a tremendous goal from Jota, a player who Rangers fans on here call him overrated and a one trick pony? I’ll take him over Ryan Kent any day.”
