Rangers offer rising star impressive new contract after midfielder snubs initial approach

Rangers have reportedly offered young midfielder Alex Lowry a £5,000-per-week contract to stay at Ibrox, as fears grow that he could move on.

The Scotland Under-19 international broke into the club’s first team this season and made an immediate impression, with Ibrox fans purring over the elegant midfielder’s performances.

Lowry’s current deal runs out in the summer, but Football Insider states that Rangers are looking to tie him down until 2025.

The report adds that the 18-year-old has already rejected an initial offer for the club. That offer was said to have been on improved terms and worth a total of £780,000 over three seasons.

So far, Lowry has made four appearances for the club, although three of those have come in the Scottish Cup. He also netted his first Rangers goal in the 4-0 win over Stirling Albion at the turn of the year.

Lowry, who is currently sidelined with an injury, is the latest Gers youngster to come through and make an impression on the first team.

Another young starlet, teenage striker Rory Wilson, is also wanted by a host of English Premier League clubs.

Rangers will be desperately hoping that Lowry makes a U-turn after snubbing that initial offer and signs on the dotted line to continue what could be a promising future in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, Gers are next in action on Sunday when they have the small matter of another Old Firm derby.

Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s men take on Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park, having lost in the league to their bitter rivals only recently.

The winner will take on the victor of the other last-four clash between Edinburgh rivals Hibernian and Hearts.
