Rangers news bulletin as Ronnie Edwards rules set amid price drop while Leeds United star deal 'explored'

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has admitted Ronnie Edwards will be up for sale in January amid links with Rangers – as he conceded a drop in valuation is on the cards.

The Light Blues have been touted with a possible move for Posh’s young defender who helped England lift last year’s under-19 European Championships. Peterborough director of football Barry Fry told Record Sport in August Rangers have had scouts at many of their games but warned they could be priced out of a move for the talented 20-year-old.

Those claims now appear to have been undercut by the chairman who insists he won't now be sold for top dollar. MacAnthony told the Hard Truth Podcast they would not be able to demand a big pay day due to being in English League One this term. He said: "I’m not asking for £6million, £8m, or £10m for Ronnie Edwards. I’m being realistic, as we are a League One club. If we were in the Championship, I’d ask for a bit more. I just want a fair fee with some decent add-ons, and we will get it in January.”

While Edwards will have Rangers on high alert, one move that appears unlikely is the signing of Leeds United prospect Jamie Shackleton. The 23-year-old has impressed at Elland Road in the English Championship following this term.

But The Athletic claim that after the midfielder returned from his loan at Millwall last summer the Scottish Premiership side expressed an interest in Shackleton. However, it is stated that after "exploring" a deal "that option did not develop".
