Rangers named in world's top 10 clubs as Celtic join two more Premiership sides in global standings

Rangers have been named among the world's top 10 clubs in a new global ranking study.

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) ranks the Ibrox club among the game's very best in a table that compiles the best 300 sides between June 2021 and May 2022. Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side rose from 24th place in the previous compilation to ninth in its latest edition. Their exploits in the Europa League, reaching the final with victories over Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade, Braga and RB Leipzig before losing out to Eintracht Frankfurt, are likely to have had a heavy influence in their standing. That ninth place ranking puts Rangers ahead of European heavyweights such as Bayern Munich, Juventus and PSG.

City rivals Celtic also make the top 50, coming in at 38th - ahead of Barcelona, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid - following a domestic double-winning campaign under Ange Postecoglou. They've risen five places from 43rd in the latest IFFHS standings.

Further down the list, Hearts come in at 231st off the back of their third-placed Premiership finish and run to the Scottish Cup Final. Aberdeen also cling on to a place in the list despite a hugely disappointing 2021/22 campaign - they sit down in 272nd.

Palmeiras currently take top spot and are one of four Brazilian sides in the top 10. Flamengo, Atletico Mineiro and Paranaense are also ranked among the best.

The rankings are calculated via a points system. Below is a snippet of how the current list shapes up.
