Rangers midfielder says loan club 'resembles Ibrox expectations' as he makes 'physical and faster down south' assessment

Rangers winger Josh McPake reckons there are similarities between the Ibrox side and his loan club Tranmere Rovers.

But the Coatbridge youngster believes the game down south is more 'physical and faster' than his experiences north of the border.

McPake joined Micky Mellon's men in January and netted his first goal for the English League Two club in last week's 3-2 defeat to Northampton.

The 20-year-old signed a new contract with the Ibrox club at the end of last year until summer 2024 and was sent out on loan for more first-team experience, having spent the first part of the campaign at English League One strugglers Morecambe.

McPake is no stranger to a love move with spells in Scotland at Dundee and Greenock Morton in recent years, as well as Yorkshire-based Harrogate Town last season.

The Scottish game is renowned for its frenetic pace, but McPake told the club's website: "I have played most of my games in England and it's a bit more physical and faster. But I do like the Scottish league and I watch all the Rangers games.

"I think that was the plan all along (to break into senior plans at Rangers). I broke through at a young age and I wasn't experienced enough. So I had to go out on loan and Tranmere is a massive club.

"It kind of resembles Rangers in a way in terms of the expectations, the fanbase, so coming here was a no-brainer.

"I'll take my experiences back to Scotland in the summer and see what I can do."
