Fulsome Everitt praises 'world-class' Fassi for turning Scarlets game in Sharks' favour

Sean Everitt reserved special praise for the man dubbed "Weekend Special", Aphelele Fassi, for turning a tough Scarlets game in the Sharks' favour.

The contest hung in the balance until after 55 minutes when Fassi combined with scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse to create the most sublime try - their first of four on Friday night.

Hendrikse put through an expertly disguised grubber past the Scarlets red wall that Fassi read like a hymn sheet, collected and sprinted through to score.

Up to that point, Scarlets had the better of the contest and were full value for their 13-6 lead.

However, Fassi's fast feet led to a capitulation, which allowed the Sharks to pounce on them and score three more tries through a Curwin Bosch, Marius Louw and a penalty try.

"He (Fassi) was fantastic under the high ball. In fact, it was a world-class performance from him," said Everitt.

"He's playing great rugby at the moment, and he just got his second Man-of-the-Match award two games in a row, so well done to him.

"And he did turn the game in its head when Jaden put that little kick through for him."

Everitt admitted that the visitors handled the Durban Friday night conditions, which can be soapy and slippery, better than they did.

It made for a fast Scarlets start, who had two disallowed tries within the first 15 minutes and were denied by Siya Kolisi on a Dane Blacker clean break as well.

Scarlets eventually scored first across the whitewash through Aaron Shingler, but that was the last time they took the lead.

 "The conditions were difficult, and I thought that Scarlets probably handled them better than us. They executed their kicking plan better," Everitt conceded.
