Rangers legend names 'huge' Amad problem amid Manchester United loanee's struggle

Former Rangers star Brian Laudrup believes Giovanni van Bronckhorst has a "huge problem" with Amad Diallo, and has questioned whether he trusts the Manchester United loanee.

Despite scoring just five minutes into his debut for the Scottish champions, Amad’s loan in Glasgow has not gone according to plan so far. The United youngster has struggled to make an impact since that contribution against Ross County, and has found himself out of the side.

The 19-year-old was criticised by supporters recently after his performance off the bench during the 1-1 draw with Dundee United. In the following games against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League and Motherwell, Amad was an unused substitute.

Manager Van Bronckhorst has given his public back to Amad, insisting the former Atalanta star is slowly adapting to a “much higher” intensity. But Laudrup — who spent four years at Ibrox during the 1990s — isn’t convinced. The former Bayern Munich and Chelsea midfielder instead thinks Van Bronckhorst doesn’t trust his January signings.

"Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team have simply failed to gather necessary domestic results since the winter break,” Laudrup said his column for the Daily Mail. “You could argue about a need to change personnel. But, for me, there is now an obvious concern on that front when you think back to the January window.

"At the midpoint of the season, you are looking for players who can offer fresh blood and impetus. But it just hasn't happened for Rangers. At least not yet.
