De Goey in mix for Collingwood AFL return

Collingwood star Jordan De Goey is a chance to make his first AFL appearance since returning to the Magpies after three months in exile.

De Goey was welcomed back to Collingwood in late January after his promising career hung in the balance following a wild night out in New York in October led to police involvement.

But with the matter now settled after De Goey pleaded guilty to a downgraded charge of harassment, the 25-year-old is set on returning to the outstanding form he displayed in the back half of the 2021 season.

The ace forward-midfielder had a setback when he suffered a rib injury at training, leading him to miss last Friday's practice match against Hawthorn.

But De Goey could be back to play to GWS at Giants Stadium on Saturday - the Magpies' final hit-out before their season-opening clash with St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on March 18.

Magpies assistant coach Brendon Bolton confirmed De Goey trained strongly on Wednesday and would be in the mix to face the Giants.

"He has to be cleared by the medicos and see how he's progressing, but... we'll have a medical meeting later in the week and see how he comes up." Bolton told reporters.

"The medical team will make the right call in consultation with Jordy.

"That's probably me being positive after what I saw today."

Star defender Jeremy Howe is also in contention as he battles to overcome a groin injury.
