Rangers 'keen' on Dujon Sterling but Michael Beale faces battle to land Chelsea free agent

Rangers boss Michael Beale is reportedly keen on a reunion with his former Chelsea protege Dujon Sterling.

The Ibrox boss knows the 23-year-old from their shared time in the Stamford Bridge academy and wanted him at QPR last summer. The former England youth international can play in multiple positions but has impressed at Stoke City in a right wing-back berth. It's understood Potter boss Alex Neil would be keen to land Sterling for keeps as his Chelsea contract ticks down.

But the Scottish Sun state Beale is ready to battle for his signature as he aims to bolster his major Ibrox rebuild. Kieran Dowell has agreed a three-year deal and Jack Butland remains on the radar. Speaking earlier this month about his future, Sterling said: “I’ll know by the end of May what I’m going to do next season. I’m not really talking about anything.

“I spoke to the club and I have a meeting with the gaffer on Saturday. For now they know my position and they respect that I don’t really want to talk about any ongoing contracts until I’m back from holiday.

“I have enjoyed my time here this season. We have a really good bunch of players and I think we could do something next season.”

Sterling has previously enjoyed loan stints Coventry, Wigan and Blackpool but has never made a senior appearance at Stamford Bridge.
