Rangers: 'Huge boost' for Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox

Rangers‘ Old Firm victory over Celtic on Sunday was a “huge boost” for Giovanni van Brockhorst‘s men moving forward, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Glasgow giants reached their first Scottish Cup final since 2016 after coming from behind to beat their arch rivals at a red-hot Hampden Park on Sunday.

Having bounced back from their disappointing defeat to the Hoops at Ibrox to beat Braga in the Europa League three days earlier, Rangers were staring down the barrel at a third Old Firm defeat on the bounce when Gregory Taylor fired Ange Postecoglou’s side into a 64th minute lead.

However, the Gers found a route back into the game when Scott Arfield curled home a fine equaliser with 12 minutes remaining.

They had chances to win the game when James Tavernier and Fashion Sakala struck the post and bar respectively, but the 33-time Scottish Cup winners moved within 90 minutes of another title when Carl Starfelt turned Calvin Bassey’s low cross past Joe Hart to spark wild scenes at the national stadium.

Rangers’ recent defeat to Celtic could see them miss out on retaining the Scottish Premiership, but the Ibrox outfit are still on course for a successful season, with Van Brockhorst’s side alive in Europe and the cup.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it’s a huge boost for Rangers, going into the rest of the season, the crucial part of the season, to get that Old Firm win, and those two big wins in extra-time, confidence is going to be high at Ibrox.”
