Rangers hero gets radio back up over Lawrence Shankland hunch and his transfer fate

Kenny Miller admits he is unsure if Rangers will make a move for Hearts goal machine Lawrence Shankland this summer and reckons that the striker's age could scupper any potential transfer.

The Jambos skipper, who has been in fine form again this season 28 goals in 42 matches in all competitions, was heavily linked with a switch to Ibrox in the January window - although no formal bid was made to the Tynecastle club. The Scotland international is into the final 13 months of his current contract in Gorgie, with Hearts bosses tabling him an offer to remain in the capital that would see him become the club's highest paid player in their 150-year history.

Shankland's 21 strikes in 32 Premiership matches - which is eight more than Rangers number nine Cyriel Dessers - have him on course to claim the golden boot for a second successive season. Although Miller is in no doubt about the player's ability to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, the former Light Blues striker isn't sure that Shankland fits the club's profile as he gets set to turn 29 at the start of next season.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, he said: "They are 100 per cent aware of what he is doing, with the fact that he is a Rangers fan and there is a lot of hype surrounding him. I am just wondering with how Rangers went about their business in terms of recruitment in January, if he is fitting the profile in terms of his age and potential to resell.

"But what he is going to bring is 25 league goals, that's a fact. Sometimes you have got to balance it up.
