Rangers head to Rome for transfer summit as Oscar Cortes blueprint gets 6 SPFL clubs' tails up

Six SPFL clubs are heading to Rome for a transfer summit in March.

And after Rangers signed Oscar Cortes off the back of a Berlin convention in November, all eyes are on who can land the next star in the making. TransferRoom are set to hold their latest two-day event in Italy on Monday and Tuesday March 18/19 with clubs invited to take part in an event dubbed the 'speed-dating' of football transfers.

Decision-makers from the world's biggest clubs meet in person for several 15-minute meetings to discuss incomings and outgoings. It's been attended by clubs up and down the country in the past, with Rangers frequently flying representatives out while Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen have been involved in recent years. This year four clubs from the Premiership are off to Rome for a series of sitdowns with Rangers, Hibs, Motherwell and Ross County all sending key decision-makers. And there will also be presence from Partick Thistle and Hamilton as clubs meet with agents and officials from other clubs hoping to strike a deal.

The Berlin summit in November directly led to Rangers doing a deal with Lens for Cortes in January - who showed plenty of promise before injury reared its ugly head. He could still become a permanent Gers player in the summer if they trigger an option to buy the Colombian.

That deal came about after Ibrox chiefs met with his Top Athlete Management agency and became aware of his availability – signing him after a tailored pitch from his representatives. And the six SPFL clubs in attendances will be looking for similar deals of that ilk.
