Rangers goal machine confirms Aston Villa transfer as Steven Gerrard plays 'main' role

Rangers prospect Rory Wilson has confirmed a transfer to Aston Villa on his personal Instagram account, as the club continues to invest heavily within the improvement of the youth squads within the club.

Wilson, 16, scored 49 goals at youth level this season and had been heavily linked with a move to Villa Park to work with former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.

The prospect reposted a total of 15 congratulatory messages on his Instagram story regarding the Villa transfer, which included edited photos of the striker in a Villa shirt as well as the announcement from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. Who said: "Aston Villa are set to sign talented Scottish striker Rory Wilson from Rangers, born in 2006. Personal terms now agreed - Wilson will sign on July 1.

"Steven Gerrard, the main factor in beating off other interest. Wilson scored 49 goals at youth level this season."

Wilson also commented on an exit from Rangers prior to his personal announcement, where he said: "Rangers have been brilliant for me. There's no getting away from that. But it's time to move on and get to the next level. I'd like to thank Rangers for everything they have done because it's been great for me over the last eight years, but it's time to leave.

"I'll probably be going down south. We'll wait and see what happens in the next couple of weeks. Everything will be sorted very soon. At Rangers, all the coaches have been fantastic for me. I can't thank them enough for all their help. I want to go down south and try and prove myself and become a top player and that's what I am going to do."
