Rangers fans set for Red Bull Leipzig semi final ticket scramble as fraction of huge friendly contingent set to travel

Rangers are set to receive just short of 3,000 tickets for their Europa League semi-final in Germany against RB Leipzig later this month.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side stormed through to the last four with a 3-1 extra time win over Braga to seal a last four slot, with the first leg at the Red Bull Arena.

And they are set to receive an allocation of 2,900 tickets - the same as Atalanta did in the quarter-finals, where they drew 1-1 in Germany before the Italians crashed to a 2-0 defeat in the second leg in Bergamo.

Five years ago, Rangers were handed 8,000 tickets for a mid-season friendly at RB Leipzig, where Mark Warburton's side crashed to a 4-0 defeat in Germany.

Celtic also played there under Brendan Rodgers when they went down 2-0 in Germany in the Europa League.

The Red Bull Arena is only allowed to host a capacity of 41,122 for European games compared with their Bundesliga capacity of 47,069.

Thousands of Rangers fans will try and get tickets to see their side in their seventh European semi-final in their history, but they will face a huge ticket scramble.

However, they won't have to fork out a fortune for a semi-final brief - Atalanta fans were charged just £20.60 for a ticket for the quarter-finals.
