Rangers Europa League final: Fan's cheeky Tinder bid to find a room in Seville

With upwards of 80,000 Rangers fans expected to descend upon Seville for Wednesday’s Europa League final with Eintracht Frankfurt, hotels in the city are set to cash in on the bumper demand for a place to stay for the evening from both Scottish and German supporters.

The average price for a room on the evening of the final now exceeds €600 (around £510). After you factor in the costs of travel and a match ticket (for those lucky enough to get their hands on one), it all adds up to a pretty pricey trip to Southern Spain for fans.

Desperate not to bankrupt himself in the process of following his heroes on the continent, one Rangers fan has come up with an inventive way of trying to secure himself a bed in Seville in midweek.

Setting up a profile on popular dating app Tinder, the 23-year-old known only as ‘Connor’ shared a number of pictures of himself in a classic Rangers shirt while holding hand-written messages pleading for a kind stranger to host him in Spanish.

“Hello Madam, my name is Connor and I’m a Rangers fan in Seville for the final,” read the first of his scribbled signs, per Glasgow Live.

“I am desperately looking for a place to stay. Hotels cost more than 600 euros so if you have a free bed or a sofa I can sleep on, it would be a big help. I’d be prepared to pay for this service. Thank you. Come on Rangers.”

The tactic was made famous in classic Christmas movie Love Actually – and it might well have paid off for Connor, too.
