Rangers 'empty seats' leave former SPFL boss rocked as he spots something he NEVER thought he'd see at Hampden

Marvin Bartley couldn't believe Rangers' clash with Dynamo Kyiv had kicked off when he was sent a picture of the Hampden stands - admitting his shock at the amount of empty seats.

It was a sobering night for the Ibrox side, temporarily relocated to the national stadium, as they crashed out of the Champions League 3-1 on aggregate after a 2-0 defeat on home soil. They were hindered by one of the softest red cards you're likely to see on Jefte when the scores were level, but even before that sucker punch the atmosphere was subdued in comparison to what the Rangers players are used to on European nights back at their usual home.

The national stadium wasn't even full with hundreds of empty seats visible, particularly in the old Celtic end. And former Queen of the South boss Bartley couldn't quite believe what he was seeing when someone sent him a snap just after kick-off.

He said on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: “I didn’t expect to see Hampden the way that it was. I got sent a picture and I could not believe that the game had actually kicked off. To have that many seats without people in them for a European game, a Champions League qualifier, I never thought I’d ever see that.

"For whatever reason, extra expenses etc. it could be for that reason but it’s proven an even bigger problem about being away from Ibrox. If it’s costing fans more money, football is expensive enough as it is, it was a midweek game so it’s just not a good look at all.”
